The Board of Examiners are excited to announce upcoming enhancements to the Practising Certificate Scheme that will affect how you record and manage your Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Over the recent interim period, we have listened to your feedback and undertaken a comprehensive review of our CPD system and approach. As a result, we’re introducing a number of changes aimed at improving flexibility, clarity, and the overall professional development experience. This is the first phase of our broader strategy to modernise the Scheme.
Key Changes
1. Expanded CPD Sub-Categories
We are introducing a broader range of CPD sub-categories that will expand on the listed options. These changes provide greater flexibility by allowing you to record a wider variety of professional development activities under each main category. The goal is to better capture the diverse ways Queensland mining professionals increase their knowledge.
2. Improved Information recording
In conjunction with the new activity sub-categories, we’ve updated what information is collected for each CPD entry. Where applicable, the system will now include guidance on:
- The maximum number of hours claimable per activity type (please note the provided number is the maximum hours achievable for said activity)
- What constitutes sufficient supporting evidence
- Facilitating a better understanding of what is expected when recording your CPD.
3. Requirement to provide evidence immediately
Practising certificate holders do not need to upload evidence at the time of submission. Instead, you will now be asked to confirm that each CPD activity meets the criteria and that you retain appropriate evidence in case you are selected for an audit. This change is intended to streamline the process while maintaining accountability.
When
The changes were implemented in October, and we will continue to monitor the information lodged to ensure the system is working as intended.
Resources
We have produced a new guide for the Practising Certificate Scheme. This document includes information regarding acceptable criteria and examples of CPD activities, and how hours are calculated to achieve the required total over the five-year cycle.
